Hero
Our CEO celebrates her 14-year cancerversary. We are so thankful for all of the Heroes in our PRG Family.
Hero:
(he-ro)- noun
is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. -Christopher Reeves
If cancer was truly a gift, I would return it. However, what I am grateful for is the amazing heroes that it has brought to my life.
The women and families that I have met through the common bond of the dreaded C word have enriched my life in ways that I never knew possible.
Survivorship is so cliché at times. We have no rhyme or reason why some people reoccur and some people don’t. It is heart-wrenching, to say the least, to see my friends die from this disease, to see so many children grow up without their mommies. What is concrete are heroes. Incredible people that come into your life and change it forever. Those that teach you the true meaning of life: people, relationships, living in the moment, and genuine love for one another.
One mom that had weeks left to live and went with her walker to volunteer for one of our events, said I am teaching my 5-year-old son to persevere through hard times,
I want him to know I fought with everything I had…. HERO
A husband and daddy of a 3 and 5-year-old that lost his 34-year-old wife a few months ago, said we were so blessed to have her for a few years. She was an amazing wife and mommy, and I will spend my life making sure our kids remember her. HERO
The many women who go through surgery, radiation, and chemo put a smile on their faces and attend every one of their kid’s events and practices because they realize nothing is guaranteed. HERO
The partners that work relentlessly and tell us we will be okay, we will get through this, even though, they themselves are terrified. HERO
The communities and support systems that go above and beyond to make sure meals are delivered, kids make it to practice and your wig is on straight. HERO
The surgeons, doctors, nurses, and researchers that go above their call of duty to be there for us in good times and bad. HERO
14 years cancer-free, grateful, yes! Grateful to the heroes in my life that have taught me to live with no regrets and squeeze every minute out of every day. In the words of Stuart Scott: You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and the manner in which you live. HERO
