A community to lean on

Heather Huneycutt was diagnosed in early 2020, at the same time COVID-19 was spreading quickly through the U.S., and was desperate to find a community to lean on. She began searching online for local support groups where she found Pink Ribbon Girls. Heather eventually met Jan Middleton, director of peer support and education at Pink Ribbon Girls, and came to lean on PRG for peer support (and lots and lots of it!).

Besides the love and support of my family and friends, Heather says receiving peer support through PRG was what truly helped get her through a very tough time mentally.

"I honestly struggled with my diagnosis, especially during a pandemic. I felt like I should be at work with my coworkers caring for those sick with COVID," says Heather, who is a nurse at a Cincinnati-area hospital.

A caregiver by nature, Heather didn't accept help willingly.

"My best friend, who is a survivor, and friends made through PRG showed me it was okay to ask for help and to never feel guilty about it," says Heather. "I truly cherish the friendships I have created because of PRG."

Heather is thankful for the entire PRG family — survivors, donors, volunteers and supporters.

"Their generosity impacts an amazing group that gives back to our community. If it were not for your support, many survivors would not get the extra care needed to fight breast or gynecological cancers," says Heather. "Their support reduces the stress and worry when it comes to meals or rides to treatment and helps them connect with others for additional love and friendship."
